Celebrated actor John Malkovich is starring in a theatre and opera production that will be presented together with the Varna Summer Music Festival at the end of July.
From June 4 to June 9, the “Varna Summer” Theater Festival hosts a workshop for young theater critics (between 18 and 35 years old), held by the International Association of Theater Critics. The working languages are English and French. The mentor of the English-speaking group is Ivan Medenica (Serbia), and of the French-speaking group – Jean-Pierre Hahn (France). The thirty-first edition of the festival will traditionally take place between 1st and 10th June 2023 on various stages in the city of Varna. Soon we will announce highlights of its programme. Stay tuned.
Between 16th and 20th June 2022 Goethe-Institute Bulgaria will host a theatre workshop based on Heiner Müller’s HAMLETMASCHINE. It is aimed at young actors, directors, theatre and art students and young professionals. Application deadline: 30 April 2022.

Due to the global pandemic Varna Summer International Theatre Festival transforms in 2020 from an atmospheric live event in June into a digital meeting in late autumn. Its first online edition starts on November 25. It shows a selection of international productions from the past years. Some of the performances are accessible worldwide and with English subtitles.
