„VIA FEST – International Theatre Festival Varna Summer” Foundation is a non-governmental organization for the benefit of the general public founded in 2004. Its establishment was determined by the expansion of the International Theatre Festival “Varna Summer” and the need to form a separate body directly responsible for the festival’s programming, realization and sustainable development.
The Foundation’s main priorities are related to the intercultural dialogue and dissemination/producing of theatre performances of high artistic value. Educational projects, conference and publishing activity in the field of performing arts form an integral part of its work and initiatives.
Since 2007, the Foundation, jointly with the Sofia Municipality, has been carrying out the World Theatre in Sofia platform. It aims to bring some leading names and trends in the international stage to the audiences in Sofia. Its profile has opened a lot since and it aims to program performances, workshops, conferences and events taking place in Sofia only. Since 2011 the platform is a part of Sofia’s Cultural Calendar.
Since 2011 the Foundation got involved in a partnership with the British Council in Bulgaria to promote the initiative for live broadcast performances of the Royal National Theatre in London at cinemas around the worlds (NT Live). Some of the most interesting productions were presented in the frames of ITF “Varna Summer”. A similar long-term initiative – “Metropolitan opera Live from New York” – the “VIA FEST” Foundation together with the “America for Bulgaria” Foundation started in 2014 in Cinema city – Sofia.
“VIA FEST” relies on partnerships with Bulgarian and international organizations, cooperation with the international cultural centres and programs, on sponsorship and donations.
