An island is an ideal home for the bizarre. Prospero’s island becomes, in Silviu Purcărete’s vision, something not unlike the lucid dream of a an old man, tired, but desperately trying to solve his troubles with the world, if not in what we call reality, at least in this confusing, lyrical, gloomy, built-up world. Nothing is what it seems in the grotesque, yet beautiful universe where monsters turn into maidens and noblemen fall at the mercy of mischievous spirits. It is a compelling, mesmerising journey through the imaginarium of, not only Prospero, but also of Silviu Purcărete – an emblem of Romanian and world theatre in the last decades, as well as of the artists who bring it to life in this unique performance.
