Аn original and unique stage version of two texts by the cult American author David Foster Wallace, created in one of the most prestigious theatres in Berlin by two artists of Bulgarian origin – the actor Samuel Finzi and the director Ivan Panteleev. In “Consider the Lobster” Panteleev blends together Wallace’s scandalous magazine reportage of the same name, written for the Maine Lobster Festival with one of the stories from the writer’s famous collection “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” and turns them into a huge theatrical monologue for the virtuoso actor Finzi. The moral problem, arising from the fact, that lobsters are being put alive into the boiling water unfolds to a larger discussion about violence, cruelty, humiliation and sensitivity to others’ pain. This year Samuel Finzi, together with the director Dimiter Gotschev and the actors Almut Zilcher and Wolfram Koch, became winner of Berlin’s Prize for theatre, which is one of the highest international recognitions, that an artist of Bulgarian origin has received.
