Theater 199 presents the Bulgarian premiere of the play New Constructive Ethics by Ivan Vyrypaev, a Russian-born author based in Poland, recognized as one of the ten most prominent playwrights in the world. Vyrypaev was first introduced to Bulgaria in 2002 through the festival production Archaeology of Dreaming, directed by Galin Stoev, who a year later staged his play Oxygen at Theater 199—a work widely regarded as a manifesto for the generation of the 2000s. Since then, Ivan Vyrypaev has continued to captivate Bulgarian directors, now including Ivan Dobchev, renowned for his philosophically profound and conceptually daring theatrical explorations.

New Constructive Ethics portrays the interrogation of a woman accused of a crime she does not remember committing. As the interrogation unfolds, the boundaries between reality and fiction blur, raising questions about the nature of truth and memory. The performance examines how propaganda and the digital age shape perceptions and decisions. To what extent is our will truly free in a world where information is often manipulated?

The powerful performances by Snezhina Petrova, Nora Malinova and Daniel Tsochev skillfully guide the audience along the fine line between reality and illusion, keeping them in suspense and creating the sensation that they, too, are participants in this “classified investigation.”
