With the premiere of Pillar of Salt based on the latest play by the contemporary Montenegrin playwright Aleksandar Radunović and staged by the Bulgarian guest director Javor Gardev, the Royal Theatre Zetski dom in Cetinje celebrates its 140th anniversary. The title refers to the biblical story of Lot’s wife. Upon the family’s escape from Sodom and Gomorrah, despite the angel’s warning, she turned back to watch God destroy them and was turned into a pillar of salt. Taking the form of an absurdist black comedy, the play deals with the horror of world-shaking conflicts faced by new generations, and the evil in man.
