The kings of Argentine tango, Quinteto Astor Piazzolla, will immerse the audience in the authentic sound of the legendary composer Astor Piazzolla’s music. The concert will feature his popular compositions in original arrangements, charged with the vibrant energy of the revolutionary nuevo tango style, as well as some of his lesser-known works. The two-time Latin Grammy winners will also present their latest album, Oblivion.

For 27 years, Quinteto Astor Piazzolla has been led by musical director Julián Vat, who worked with Piazzolla during the final years of his life. Since the composer’s passing, Vat has dedicated himself to preserving and promoting Piazzolla’s legacy. The concert promises an extraordinary experience for lovers of passionate and dramatic music, revealing the depth, emotion, and genius of one of the most captivating composers of the 20th century.

Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992) revolutionized traditional Argentine tango as a composer and bandoneonist by enriching it with elements of classical music and jazz. This new style, known as nuevo tango, expanded the genre’s boundaries and gained international acclaim. Although he initially faced resistance in his native Argentina, Piazzolla achieved global success, collaborating with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Gidon Kremer, and Gary Burton. In 1960, he formed a quintet with which he recorded and performed many of his most iconic works. This ensemble—bandoneon, piano, violin, guitar, and double bass—remains central to the performance of his music to this day.

Quinteto Astor Piazzolla was established in 1998 by the Astor Piazzolla Foundation with the mission to preserve and promote the Maestro’s artistic legacy. The ensemble is the only one with full access to Piazzolla’s complete archive, performing his works in their original arrangements from the authentic scores.
