The arts have always been subject to limitations that society imposes on them to a greater or lesser extent. Art history clearly shows us the various limits of artistic freedom and religious, moral, ideological censorship are familiar tools of control in authoritarian and totalitarian societies. What are the limits of freedom for artists today in the conditions of a democratic social regulation? Are there modern forms of censorship and what are they? Can we put an equal sign in front of all forms of censorship we know? And last but not least, how our understanding of censorship and self-censorship changes in the context of military conflicts?
