All of the characters in the play by Ivan Vyrypaev, one of the intriguing contemporary Russian playwrights, are drunk. Drunkenness is here a concept, a metaphor and a condition in which everyone reaches a paradoxical spiritual revelation. Vyrypaev inventively merges metaphysical drama with comedy that often borders on absurdity. Director Javor Gardev strips the play of any literalness and with a vigorous actors ensemble creates a memorable image of people desperately striving to reach the essence of their existence.
