Can you imagine if it was possible to completely change the way you live your life? To look at your life and ask yourself what you would do if it died. If your old life died. It ended. And then take what’s left of your real life and live it properly. How can I do that, Michael? Where do I start?

Young but already widely acclaimed director Sam Yates adapts Chekhov’s famous play about love, art and an attempted murder in a fresh adaptation by Simon Stevens, one of Britain’s leading playwrights. It is written to be performed by a solo actor. And Andrew Scott, whom we know mainly from his film roles (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers), gives an acting masterclass in bringing to life all the seven characters in the play. This production explores the kaleidoscope of human emotions, harnessing the power of the intimate bond between actor and audience to delve deeper into the human psyche.

Sam Yates is an award-winning theatre and film director. He was named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow and a rising star in The Observer. Yates has been described as “a major talent” in The Guardian newspaper and “a director of unusual flair” in The Observer. Yates is known for his eclectic body of work with leading talent. Recent projects include Vanya with Andrew Scott (West End) and upcoming feature debut Magpie starring Daisy Ridley which will receive its world premiere at SXSW in 2024.

Filmed live during its sold-out run in London’s West End.
