The Drama Theatre of Varna bears the name of the administrative and artistic director of the first municipal professional theatre troupe in Varna – the actor Stoyan Bachvarov. The finances for its building have been collected through donations from the citizens. It has been designed by the architect Nikola Lazarov, with some support on a later stage from the architect Dabko Dabkov. It was finished in 1932 by the architect Zhelyazko Bogdanov. In 1947 the building of the theatre welcomes also the newly established city opera company, while in 2010 the two cultural institutes become united in the new structure – the Theatre and Music Production Centre – Varna.
