Varna Summer ITF goes digital

Due to Covid-19 the Varna Summer International Theatre Festival transformed from an atmospheric live event in June into a digital meeting in late autumn. But nevertheless the festival’s 28th edition will take place although in the internet space.

Between November 25th and December 6th 2020 as part of the festival programme we will be able to see ten interesting performances from all over the world.  Our selection is governed by the desire to show theatre’s many-sided manifestations offering unique experiences for the viewer of the word, dance and visuality. The festival opens by a flamenco dance, followed by some world-renown names in choreography – Flemish Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and French Maguy Marin – before getting to Taiwan through the contemporary dance of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. The performances based on texts by Schiller, Lessing, Büchner, Shakespeare are by some of the most interesting directors of the recent years – Timofey Kulyabin and Kirill Serebrennikov from Russia, Grzegorz Jarzyna from Poland, Andreas Kriegenburg from Germany, Declan Donnellan from the United Kingdom. The finale features a Bulgarian participation: director Galin Stoev will prepare a special film about his performance The Double Inconstancy by Pierre Marivaux, a production of the theatre in Toulouse, France.

We hope all these performances will arouse your interest. The access to each of the performances is free for 72 hours (some of them only on the territory of Bulgaria) from the subsite of each title in the PROGRAMME section.

We will be expecting you on our website!
