Katerina is a young, married woman, living with her mother-in-law Marfa Kabanova who is the absolute mistress of the house and the three young people under her roof: her unmarried daughter Varvara, her son Tihon and his wife. In the small town in the Volga region where everything is everyone`s business arrives a young man, Boris, whose financial fate and therefore existence is dependent on the mercy of his uncle, the respectable merchant Dikoy. When Tihon leaves for Moscow, Katerina and Boris fall in love and grab thei opportunity for better fate. Their happiness is going to be brief … Director Jernej Lorenci (holder of a number of national and international awards) creates on the basis of the play’s classical plot a contemporary performance that looks like a joyful celebration but destructive passions rave beneath. One of Slovenian theatre’s best achievements for the last years.

Duration: 165min.
