With the premiere of “Pillar of Salt” based on the latest play by the contemporary Montenegrin playwright Aleksandar Radunović  and staged by the Bulgarian guest director Javor Gardev, the Royal Theatre “Zetski dom” in Cetinje celebrates its 140th anniversary. The title refers to the biblical story of Lot’s wife. Upon the family’s escape from Sodom and Gomorrah, despite the angel’s warning, she turned back to watch God destroy them and was turned into a pillar of salt. Taking the form of an absurdist black comedy, the play deals with the horror of world-shaking conflicts faced by new generations, and the evil in man.

This production marks another successful international collaboration for renowned director Javor Gardev and scenographer Nikola Toromanov, known for their profound and sharply contemporary interpretations, blending minimalist yet striking stage imagery.

In Montenegrin with Bulgarian and English subtitles.

The performance is not suitable for people under 18.

The guest performance is realized under the project “Theatre Bridges in Southeast Europe”, funded by the program “Presentation to the Bulgarian audience of contemporary European productions from the CCI sector” through the National Culture Fund under the EU Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism.
