Nowadays, vertical dance is one of the most popular and spectacular genres in the world and Il Posto company is an attractive Italian formation specialized in open-air performances. They refuse to conform to gravitation and use height, air, walls of buildings and urban landscapes in stead of stage. This brings new life to urban architecture and the talented young saxophonist Marco Castelli’s live music act connects the people and the place into a single festive space. During the opening evening of the 21st International Theatre Festival “Varna Summer” gravity will be challenged and the Varna theatre’s iconic neo-Baroque building will be turned into a dance floor. The Vertical Dance Company Il Posto is a project conceived in 1994 by the choreographer Wanda Moretti and the musician Marco Castelli, and it is based on the interaction between dance, music and architecture. It has taken part in important festivals and events on both the national and international scene. Wanda Moretti, choreographer, specialized her studies on dance on the systems of the proportion and harmony of space. In particular, her artistic work focuses on movement in relation to works of arts, as well as urban and natural architecture. Parallel to her work as choreographer, she has also carried out research on the educational potential of dance in the social field, schools and museums. Marco Castelli is one of the most talented Italian sax players, with a brilliant and prolific career and a broad artistic activity. Beside writing and performing jazz music, he’s a conductor of orchestra and a composer for theatre and modern ballet, and, as a sound designer, he has creatively interacted with various media: poetry, video art, visual arts. During his career Marco Castelli has made numerous recordings with prestigious artists and has participated at international festivals in about 30 countries. The tour in Bulgaria is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute.
