Konstantin Iliev wrote “Nirvana” in 1982 and to this day it is considered one of the best Bulgarian theatre plays and is among the most acclaimed both in the country and internationally. The play is based on documentary material about the relationship between two legendary figures in Bulgarian culture – the poet and revolutionary Peyo Yavorov and his wife Lora Karavelova. Beyond the historical details, the play dramatizes their tragic love as a clash between powerful cosmic energies – male and female. The two protagonists stand opposite each other to say everything they have to say. The dialogue ends with two shots.
The iconic roles of The Man and The Woman this time feature two of the most attractive and successful actors in Bulgarian theatre today – Deyan Donkov and Radina Kardzhilova, led by the delicate and stylish direction of Stiliyan Petrov.
