Krikor Azaryan is a key Bulgarian theatre maker for the last decades. “The Collections” is an exemplary for a successful combination between the most important ingredients in a performance: a good drama, good directing, good acting and a topical point of view to texts by one of the most original playwrights of the second half of XX century. The performance suggests the feeling of absurd as reality and reality as absurd and a lost sense for veracity. Director Krikor Azaryan puts two plays (“The Collection” and “Victoria Station”) together united through the leitmotif about the pursuit of truth in life and the basic need to believe in its existence.
“For me the characters of „The Collection” are like the worldly minded people nowadays. I decided that it will be more interesting along with all the characteristic subjects for Pinter to look at this play from this point of view as well and to discuss loneliness, lie and truth. As a contrast to all this comes the “Victoria Station” character.”
