“The Happiest Man” is a Bulgarian opera-fairy tale by Milko Kolarov, based on a libretto by Maxim Asenov—a musical and stage parable about dreams, goodness, temptation, and choice. After its first recording in 1983 and its first stage premiere in Varna in 1991, the work returns to the stage in a new production.
Created for the 2025/2026 season on the occasion of the composer’s 80th anniversary, the new Varna production premiered on February 6 and 7, 2026, at the Varna Opera. The performance revives a rarely staged Bulgarian work and introduces it to a new audience today.
