The question of theatre’s ability to cross borders – both geographical and spiritual – is especially important today, when we intensely search for paths towards each other, when we try to penetrate into the various surrounding cultures and be better understood by them. With particular strength this question stands before the theatre practitioners and audiences in Bulgaria, which in the beginning of this year became a member of the European Union. But the discussion about the place of the performing arts and their new strategies/forms in the changed during the last decades social and cultural situation in the globalizing world keeps to be the most topical and important debate in the contemporary theatre as a whole. The aim of the conference is to initiate a meeting between theatrologists, directors, managers of companies and projects, directors of theatres and festival selectionists, directors and curators of art centres/events, who could discuss about the ways and forms, in which contemporary theatre takes place as an event of transnational and interdisciplinary character.
