Driven by a sense of the world getting even more insecure and broken, director Kris Sharkov develops his distinctive direct and hyper-realistic theatrical language. Unbearably Long Embraces is Sharkov’s first exploration of Ivan Vyrypaev’s poetic and sensual universe. The author has gained wide-spread recognition as one of the most influential contemporary European playwrights. Sharkov’s successful partners are the talented young actors, outstanding in their craft and sensitivity.
Two young couples – Charlie and his wife Monica, and chance acquaintances Emmy and Kristoff – find out that their lives are mysteriously connected. They are all facing challenges, feeling as social outcasts and completely failing to understand the world around. Salvation becomes an option when an alien voice offers everyone the opportunity to set off to another galaxy. The play explores the socially relevant theme of people’s intimate relationships by delving into their spiritual and sensual experience.
