“Volpone” by Elizabethan England’s great playwright Ben Jonson is among the most famous satiric comedies. Written more than 400 years ago it has lost nothing of its brilliant humor and satiric string. Venetian merchant Volpone (meaning “fox” in Italian) has an insidious plan. He pretends to be on his deathbed in order to dupe, with the assistance of his cunning servant Mosca, Voltore, Corbaccio, and Corvino who lust after his fortune and try to outdo each other in bearing him luxurious gifts. The motley gallery of memorable characters of greed and cupidity is stylishly staged by director Zdravko Mitkov who relies on the masterful polish of characters entrusted to some of Bulgarian theatre’s most brilliant comedy talents.

Duration: 150min.
