“The Theatre – That’s Me” is a long-term project of the International Triennial for Stage Poster – Sofia. The theme burlesques the famous phrase of Louis XIV, “The State, that’s me”, and at the same time interprets Shakespeare’s celebrated phrase “Life is a stage and we are all actors.”
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts…”
William Shakespeare, As You Like It
Every show has authors, performers and spectators.
What are we?
What is our daily play;
what is the stage where the action takes place, and
what is the theatre where our life passes?
The questions suggested by the theme are many, and the answers even more and different.
This year 28 artists from 23 countries accepted the special invitation of the Triennial to join the project and sent in their virtual posters interpreting the theme. A selection of the works by Bulgarian artists is shown in partnership with Varna Summer International Theatre Festival on the fence of the City Art Gallery in Varna from 1st July till 15th July.
The exhibition is part of IMAGE AND LIKENESS project financially supported by the National Culture Fund.
